Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the championship lead from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he lost control at Turn Four during the early running.
The Japanese lost control over the curbs on exit before sliding over the gravel trap, and was blessed to avoid just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner approaching the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th place, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, over half a second off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
